Paul Carr is a graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire and Director of Music at St. Paul’s in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham and is increasingly in demand both as a solo organist and choral accompanist.
Recital venues have included both St. Phillip’s and St. Chad’s Cathedrals in Birmingham, Hereford Cathedral, Tewkesbury Abbey and churches in Cheadle, Woburn, Halifax, Leighton Buzzard, Malvern, Tenbury Wells and many others around Birmingham. He performed the opening concert on the restored organ at Wing, Buckinghamshire, the rebuilt organ at Wylde Green United Reformed Church and the new organ at Shernhall Methodist Church Walthamstow. Recital venues in 2007 include Blenheim Palace, the Victoria Hall Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent and Truro Cathedral. He also plays in cathedrals accompanying choirs who sing at the services in the absence of the cathedral choir. Visits in 2007 include Salisbury Cathedral, Bath Abbey and Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
Paul has made seven visits to play in Germany, most recently in 2004 when he gave the Angeluskonzert at the Lambertikirche, Munster. He has also performed in churches and concert halls in Poland, the USA and the Czech Republic. He returns to the USA to play at The Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago in March 2008. Between 1993 and 2003 Paul performed 100 lunchtime recitals on the very fine 1909 Norman & Beard organ at Cradley Heath Methodist Church. Leading up to and following the closure of the church in July 2004, Paul and his wife Hannah worked tirelessly to re-home the instrument, which was eventually acquired by the Gulangyu Island Organ and Piano Museum, Xiamen City, South East China. Now that the installation there is complete, Paul has an invitation to give a series of concerts and make a recording. Paul’s recital series continue at Holy Trinity Church Wordsley, Staffordshire on the first Sunday in each month at 3 pm.
